About Us

TheocracyWatch is a partner project of the CRESP Center for Transformative Action at Cornell University. CRESP is a nonsectarian, action-based educational organization with its roots in religious dialogue, human rights advocacy, and ethical thought.

TheocracyWatch raises awareness about the pervasive role of the Religious Right in the U.S. government. It disseminates information through its Powerpoint® presentations, CDs -- both audio and Powerpoint -- and DVDs. It also conducts interviews with the media.

Rev. James K. Boodley, Executive Director

Rev. Boodley is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and a long-time member of the TheocracyWatch Board of Directors.

Joan Bokaer, Founder

A peace activist and educator, Ms. Bokaer has retired as executive director of TheocracyWatch. Her next CRESP project will focus on creating sustainable cities.

Chip Gagnon, Researcher

Chip Gagnon is Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Politics at Ithaca College.  His teaching and research are in the area of international relations.  His particular interest is the ways in which right-wing forces construct a fear of others -- both internal and external others -- to impose their agendas on populations.

Ed Siemon, Treasurer of the Board of Directors

Mr. Siemon oversees finances. He also develops the TheocracyWatch mailing list from names gathered through the website and at presentations.

Nancy Siemon, Secretary of Board of Directors. Both Ed and Nancy Siemon are members of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship. Ms. Siemon teaches college mathematics.
